Castor wheels are offered in a range of sizes for various applications. Many of our customers are seeking direct replacements for their current wheels. To assist in finding a replacement, we have listed the four key elements of wheel construction below.
Castor Size
This is the standard way of classifying castors based on the diameter of the wheel. For example, a “75mm castor” is a castor with a 75-millimetre diameter wheel. The wheel diameter includes the tyre (if it has one) from edge to edge.

Tread Width
This is the width of the wheel’s tyre cross-section, measured at the widest point in the event of a sculpted profile.

Hub Length
This is the measurement through the middle of the hub (or wheel), measured from the widest point to the widest point or from bearing to bearing at the centre of the wheel. The hub length is usually a little longer than the tread width.

Bore Size
The bore size is the diameter of the hole in the centre of the wheel, where the bearing is usually located. The bore is typically continuous through the entire hub, but if the hole on either side of the hub is larger than the centre hole, this is referred to as “counterbored.”
